Got Mice?

Cats available for adoption through Best Friends for Life Working Cat program are looking for a home in outdoor settings such as a barn, farm, etc. In exchange for shelter, medical care, and food working cats can benefit their people by keeping rodents and other pests away.

Advantage of Adopting a Working Cat

  • You get an Eco-friendly, green solution to your mouse, mole, snake & vermin problems.

  • No toxins, no chemicals, 100% natural. As an added bonus, you’ll be SAVING LIVES.
Similar programs in other cities have placed cats with construction companies, flower/garden shops, auto-parts, police stations, barns  and other businesses looking for inexpensive, safe and effective rodent control.

About the Program
Working cats come from the euthanasia list of animal control. This innovative program serves as their only live path out of impoundment. These cats cannot be adopted as traditional pets, are not eligible for Trap-Neuter-Return, and, for one reason or another, cannot be returned to their original outdoor habitat, which is always preferable. Without this program, feral cats would be euthanized at local animal control facilities.

The Working Cats Program gives cats, who have no chance of being adopted into a typical home, a better and more secure life simply by doing what comes natural to them.

Even though not all cats are successful hunters, their patrolling and leaving their scent discourages vermin from making your place their home.

BFFL will ensure that all working cats are:

  • Spayed or neutered

  • Tested negative Leukemia

  • Current on vaccinations for Rabies, FVRCP and Leukemia

  • Microchipped

BFFL will also provide:

  • Transition enclosure loan if needed.

  • Transportation to your site

Your Responsibilities
Working cats require a commitment from you.

  • Provide shelter from elements (warm, dry building)

  • Daily Food and Water

  • Future veterinary care and vaccines as needed.

  • Donation to continue the program

Adoption Tips
We recommend a confinement period of 2-3 weeks to minimize runaways.
