FOUND A PET?

FIRST, SCAN THEM FOR MICROCHIP

Did you know that 75% of animals that are "lost" are usually picked up within one mile of their home?

It turns out that most pets aren't lost. They're just out for a stroll and need a little help from a human to get them back to their family.

Animal shelters are stressful, scary places for pets, no matter how hard we try to make them an easy place to
be. You can help a pet avoid having to go to the animal shelter with just a bit more effort to get them home again!

FOUND a BFFL Cat or Dog with our Microchips?

Take the pet to a microchip scanning location—there’s one probably right in your neigborhood!

There are numerous microchip databases. If the pet is microchipped, we recommend doing the following:

  • Search the microchip number on the AHAA Microchip Lookup Tool and contact the microchip company to let them know you found the pet

  • File a Found Report on 24PetWatch.

  • Call 311 to have dispatchers search local databases

You can also post on social media, apps, and websites to try and find the owners. Don't know where to post?

IF YOU FIND YOUR PET

GET AN IDENTIFICATION TAG FOR YOUR PET

Identification tags are inexpensive and can be purchased at local pet stores. Include your contact number and address and get a new one if this information ever changes.

MICROCHIP YOUR PET

Microchipping is a more permanent form of identification for your pet. Microchips are as small as a grain of rice and are inserted quickly—they are not GPS systems or unsafe, but only include a serial number that can be entered into a secure database that holds your contact information. You can microchip your pet at any local veterinarian office or at any Pet Health & Wellness events.

SPAY/NEUTER YOUR PET

Unaltered pets are more likely to run off because they are looking for a mate in heat. This can be prevented by spaying or neutering your pet. We offer spay/neuter assistance.
